General Information

Tanager Lodge Tibetan Camp is located on Upper Chateaugay Lake in northern New York State, a few miles south of the Canadian border.  We are approximately 4-5 hours drive from Boston, 6 hours from New York City, and less than 2 hours from Burlington, Vermont.

Due to our current schedules, we will not be offering Tibetan Camp in 2019. We hope to be able to renew it in the near future, and we appreciate the interest from all of our Tibetan Camp friends and families. Please stay in touch!

Eligibility

The program is open to Tibetan boys and girls, ages 9 to 15. We also welcome adult volunteers.

Activities

Tibetan activities may include archery, Tibetan cooking, stone carving, lungta printing, political action and awareness, Tibetan history, as well as Tibetan drawing, painting, traditional songs, games, and storytelling.  Regular camp activities include swimming, hiking, rock climbing, arts and crafts, sweat lodge, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, canoeing, rowing, and nature lore.

Directors & Staff

Tad Welch and Ali Schultheis Moore have directed Tanager Lodge Tibetan Camp since 2004. The staff consists of the regular trained counselors of Tanager Lodge (from our regular camp program), a licensed Registered Nurse, certified lifeguards and trip leaders, a kitchen staff, and Tibetan volunteers. Tibetan adults are also invited to participate in the program by leading Tibetan activities.
