Dates and Tuition
This year Staff Week begins on Friday, July 2rd. Camp opens on the weekend of July 10th and 11th and closes on Saturday, August 7th. Tuition is $4,000. There is no refund for late arrival or early withdrawal. Tuition includes all laundry and activity expenses. It does not include transportation to and from camp, bus chaperonage, sundries purchased from the office, or medical expenses outside the services provided by the camp health director.
Baseline Covid-19 screening and health guidelines will be determined by the State of New York Department of Health. Tanager Lodge will communicate protocols to camp families before the season.
Campers arriving by car can meet us at our docking site in Merrill, just one block off of Route 374. From there, a three-mile boat ride brings them to camp. Depending on demand, there may be a chaperoned bus group from New York City to Plattsburgh, NY where they will be met by senior staff members and driven to Merrill. There may also be a chaperoned return bus group at the end of the summer. There is a $25 chaperonage fee each way.
What to Bring & Not to Bring
We encourage campers to bring camera and film, fishing rod and tackle, art supplies, musical instruments, and mask and snorkel. We do not allow aerosols, fireworks, phosphate soaps, candles, electronics, or digital cameras. A full personal equipment list will be provided upon enrollment. Possession and/or use of cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs (other than those prescribed by a physician) is grounds for immediate dismissal from camp.
Mail is sent out and received daily. Campers write home weekly. The children appreciate food packages, but please use discretion when deciding amounts and content. We serve nutritious and hearty meals and discourage junk food. Please do not send chewing gum. Telephone messages may be left on our answering machine. We check messages daily. We check e-mail infrequently when camp is in session. If you need to send something by Federal Express, please be sure to allow delivery without signature as these items are left at our boathouse for us to pick up.
We send out laundry once a week, and it returns a couple of days later. Campers should bring a two-week supply of clothing. Temperatures may range from the high 80s in July to 40s on some August nights. All personal belongings must be labeled with the camper’s full name. We recommend using a Sharpie permanent marker. We suggest that $60 be left on account should the camper need to purchase stationery, stamps, flashlight batteries, a toothbrush, or related items from the office.
