General Information
Tanager Lodge Tibetan Camp is located on Upper Chateaugay Lake in northern New York State, a few miles south of the Canadian border. We are approximately 4-5 hours from Boston, 6 hours from Manhattan, and less than 2 hours from Burlington, Vermont.
Eligibility
The program is open to Tibetan boys and girls, ages 6 to 16. We also welcome parents and other adult volunteers.
Dates & Tuition
In 2008, the camp will run from Saturday, August 16th to Saturday, August 23rd. Tuition is $250/child for the week. If more than one child from a family attends, tuition is $225/child. The camp fee includes all food, lodging, and activities. It does not include transportation to and from camp. There is no charge for adults.
Activities
Tibetan activities may include archery, Tibetan cooking, lungta printing, stone carving, kite making, Tibetan history, Tibetan drawing and painting, traditional songs, and story-telling. Regular camp activities include swimming, hiking, rock climbing, arts and crafts, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and nature lore.
Directors and Staff
Tad Welch and Ali Schultheis have directed Tanager Lodge Tibetan Camp since 2004. The staff consists of the regular trained counselors of Tanager Lodge (from our regular camp program), a licensed Emergency Medical Technician, certified lifeguards and trip leaders, and a kitchen staff.
Tibetan adults are also invited to participate in the program by leading Tibetan activities.
